Using Paintless Dent Repair to Take Out Dents From Hail

So you want to know how Hail Damage is repaired with paintless dent removal. This video will show you the professional way that we take the hail dents out of your car using the Paintless Method.

There are some DIY methods of removing dents that may work for you but most probably won’t. You may have heard of taking dents out using dry ice or heating up the dent with a hair dryer and using the cold freezing air from an air duster can that will pop the dents out. Maybe you can just pull them out with a plunger or suction cup. I have even heard people say they just leave it out in the hot sun and this will cause the hail dents to pop right out. The problem with these methods is that most of them will not work or provide a quality repair and you may just end up damaging the paint.

Professional Paintless Dent Removal

By using Professional Paintless Dent Repair to take out the hail dents, you are choosing the method that vehicle manufacturers and insurance companies recommend to repair your vehicle with a better quality repair in a shorter amount of time.

We first have a big quarter to half dollar size dent that is out in the open area of the panel. You can see this in the video showing the underside of the hood. We use a special PDR tool with special tips on it that we use to get on the underside of the panel and then we will likely just push up the metal thus removing the dent.

This method of paintless dent repair you could try to do-it-yourself but if you don’t have any experience with it could be difficult because of the special techniques needed.  We use our special PDR lights to see exactly where we are pushing the dent from under the panel and we make several small little pushes with light pressure “massaging” up every little spot.

Some people have come to me and said they tried to remove the hail dents them self and they have just caused further damage that will not be possible to repair anymore with PDR. What will happen is if you go and push on the dent and you think you just gonna pop it out you actually bust the paint by pushing too hard or you can make little marks in the paint or in the metal from pushing too much.

There is your video demonstration on how to fix the hail damage with paintless dent removal. Paintless Dent Repair to Remove Damage from Cart

It is a windy day out and you have just come out of the store. You are walking towards your car when you see something that gives you a sinking feeling in your stomach.

A shopping cart is against your car door

You rush up to see if it caused any damage and see a big crease dent in your door.

What do you do?

Well there is good news! You can use Paintless Dent Repair to restore you car back to new again.

Mercedes Dent Removal

This Mercedes C300 came into the my Minnesota Paintless Dent Repair Shop to have this crease removed from the door. My customer said she was out shopping and came out to her car and noticed this 4 inch crease in the door. It looks like it was made by a shopping cart because of the way the impact was made and the horizontal scratches that were in the crease.

A crease dent in the door like this is removed with the paintless dent repair method by accessing the back of the panel and slowly working out the dent with special PDR tools. There was an door safety beam inside the door that caused part of the metal to pushed out. This part is hammered back in to make the area smooth.

If you have had a shopping cart hit your car and make a dent, then choose paintless dent repair to restore your vehicle back to new condition without painting.

Can Paintless Dent Repair Take Out a Crease?

This is a question I am often asked. Many people want to know if a crease in their car can be removed with the paintless dent repair method. Well… Yes It Can.

With all the DIY, Do-It-Yourself, dent repair videos on Youtube and the places online showing how to get a dent out of your car, the exposure to how professional paintless dent repair is done is limited. Most of those DIY videos will show you that dent repair is done by just “popping” the dent out with suction cups or heat and dry ice or compressed air. So when it comes to having a creased dent in your car it may seem like those methods would not work.

How is Paintless Dent Repair Done?

Professional Paintless Dent Repar is done in multiple ways with PDR tools. We use special hardened steel rods that are used to gently move the metal back out from the inside of the panel. We will use special glue and tabs, that are made especially for PDR so they will not damage the paint, to pull the dents out. This “glue pull” method is not always used to just “pop” the dents out. It is used to pull out the dents to minimize the amount of pushing that we need to do from the inside of the panel. We also use special hammers and tools to “knock down” the crowns and work with the metal on the outside of the panel to properly flatten the area. These hammers are a critical tool in the paintless repair process because of the way the metal reacts when it is dented. It does not just go in but also moves out. This is the reason that the dents don’t just pop out with other methods.

This is the reason that the dents don’t just pop out with other methods.

In this video you will see the Professional Paintless Dent Repair method being used to remove this crease dent from the door of a Volvo. The glue pull method was used to minimize the pushing needed with regular PDR tools and also because of obstructions inside the door panel that made using those dent removal tools impossible.

What happens when you are in Minneapolis and someone comes up and KICKS the side of your car. You end up with a LARGE DENT about a size 12 shoe that is left in the quarter panel. Just like the one in this Mercedes.

So what do you do? Watch this video to see what happens.

So my customer was downtown Minneapolis one evening when some guy comes up to his car and gives a good swift kick right to the left rear quarter panel. Now he has the large dent in his nice Mercedes. Needless to say he was not very happy with this.

It’s a good thing he brought the car into us at Excel Dent Removal to have paintless dent removal done to repair this dent. With the paintless dent repair (PDR) method I was able to remove this large dent without having to repaint the car. You will see in the video that the PDR method involves gaining access to the back of the panel to push the dents out from the inside. For this large dent in the Mercedes quarter panel it meant taking out the tail light and exposing the opening behind it.

Often with large dents there will be a “crown”. This is what happens when the vehicle gets dented. The metal doesn’t just go inward but has to move somewhere and can cause the metal extrude out. Much like the ripples in the water when a rock is thrown in. You will see in the PDR video that I had to use a special hammer to knock down the crowns to straighten the metal.
